The newly named ‘Fixby Lodge’ Healthcare Scheme in Huddersfield has been handed over to the client Horizon Healthcare Homes. The project comprised the construction of a new 8 bedroom care home in fully landscaped grounds to a high specification.
The development was challenging due to the existence of a redundant coalmine on the site as well as foundations remaining in the ground from the former Brackenhall United Reform Church which required stabilisation and removal respectively.
LHL Group’s architectural team initially secured planning for the development before taking on the role of Employers Agent, with a professional internal team of Project Management, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying to deliver the second care home for Horizon with the third due to complete imminently.
Pacy & Wheatley, a specialist contractor within the healthcare sector, started the works in November 2016 and completed ahead of schedule and on budget despite various specification upgrades to create a modern ‘homely feel’ for the building occupants.
