Design work is almost complete on the £600,000 station in Kendray, the pilot for a new community policing initiative which may be rolled out across South Yorkshire. The two-storey police station is to be the first in a new South Yorkshire Police initiative to make local communities safer and will house 50 staff from two safer neighbourhood teams covering Kendray and Worsborough and local authority neighbourhood wardens. Construction work on the 5,000 sq ft station, which will incorporate offices, interview rooms, briefing rooms, lockers, changing facilities, a kitchen and dining area, as well as car parking for visitors and police vehicles, is due to complete next spring. (2007) An associate director at Doncaster-based Hawley & Partners, part of the LHL group, Barry Walker, says: "This project is the latest in a partnering agreement with South Yorkshire Police in which we are a preferred building services provider. "We are pleased to be involved because this scheme demonstrates the breadth of our services. As well as carrying out all the architectural design to create a building which will blend in with a residential area, we are specifying and project managing the construction. "It is extremely satisfying to be involved in a pilot initiative with major potential to benefit local communities in South Yorkshire." South Yorkshire Police buildings surveyor, Adam Laing, says: "We have a lot of confidence in the design that the LHL Group has put together. Hawley & Partners is a good professional firm and I am looking forward to working alongside them to complete this scheme for the local community." Hawley & Partners, which was founded in Doncaster 25 years ago, joined forces with York-based building surveyors and property consultants, Lightly & Lightly in December to create the LHL Group which works region-wide and also has offices in Leeds, York, Harrogate and Hull.
