Ampleforth Monastery is undergoing its first major refurbishment in 120 years for the community of 58 monks.
Their cells, unchanged for the last century except for the introduction of electric light and the installation of a hand basin, are to be revamped and instead of the three shared bathrooms, now they will have their own facilities.
As well as the living quarters, the refurbishment will include refurbishing all the windows, extensive external repairs and a new modern infirmary.
LHL Group are providing project management and architectural design services for the scheme.
