St Josephs Convent, York

Situated in the site of the former Poor Clares Convent on Lawrence Street in York, St Joseph’s Convent comprises of nine 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, a 2 bedroom house and four new-build 1 bed townhouses.

The project involved the conversion and refurbishment of the existing Poor Clares Convent buildings, The Lodge and Extern House, whilst being careful to maintain and restore the ecclesiastical Grade II listed features.

Prior to work beginning, the Convent lay empty since 2012, so the redevelopment and restoration of the site was a welcome addition to Lawrence Street.

Each property comes with either a private or communal garden and secure gated access from Lawrence Street. The New build properties have been designed with the existing convent buildings in mind. Using larch cladding to the exterior and signature Velfac glazing to the front elevation.

The build was completed in July 2020. LHL Group acted as Project Managers, Quantity Surveyor and Contract Administrator. The build was completed by Elvington Park Building Services and the interior design was carried out by the award winning Rachel Mclane Interior Designers.
